British Universities and Colleges Sport - BUCS
BUCS is the national Governing body for all University and further education sport in the UK. They adminster all the leagues and arrange fixtures for all institutions, as well as making tough decisions on appeals when rules are broken or results disputed. Team Newcastle has 7 teams in BUCS Premier divisions in 2010-11, with the total number of teams entered by Newcastle University making up the 3rd largest entry to BUCS competitions.
At the end of each season BUCS hosts a championships week in Sheffield where the top teams in the country battle it out for the coveted prize of being Champions of the BUCS Championship. Those teams in Tiers 1 and below compete in a cup competition throughout the year.
All the institutions competing in BUCS competitions are competing for BUCS 'points' which are totalled up at the end of the year to give Universities and Colleges their rankings for the season, with Team Necastle currently occupying 15th place after 10/11.
