► What Help is Available?

Help is always available to those who ask for it.  Don't by shy, just ask if there's something you want to know!

Placement supervisor
You will have a supervisor at your placement that is responsible for helping you at your placement and signing off your hours.  At the start of the module, we will give you a supervisor's handbook to give to them which contains all they need to know about being a supervisor. They are responsible for providing a review of your performance and will offer pointers and guidance as to how you can perform better on your placement (that is if you ask them to!  They aren't mind readers...that we know of).  They can help you develop your skills and reach your goals if you let them.

The Students' Union
Emily Porter, the CDM Staff member at the Students' Union, is also on-hand to help should you struggle to speak to your supervisor or the curriculum unit, and will help all she can with any aspects of the placement you encounter. You need to speak to Emily as soon as you elect to take the module, to discuss your placement and supervisor. She can be contacted on cdm.union@ncl.ac.uk, 0191 239 3919 or by coming into the Activities Office, 1st Floor of the NUSU building.

 Personal Tutor
You also have a tutor from the Curriculum Unit of the Careers Service. The Careers Service also provides full training to students on all the key issues within the module, and its assessment. Your personal tutor will be assigned to you when you begin the module and attend training in October.
