► Volunteering at the Students' Union

You may be eligible to use your involvement in student activities for your Career Development Module placement!

For students who are currently invovled in student activities, the module is a great way to be able to take on more responsibility and balance their extra-curricular activities with their course workload.  In the past we've had Presidents, Treasurers and Secretaries of ratified clubs and societies use their role for their placement.  Students have also used their roles as section editors at The Courier and committee members at NSR as their placement.  Leadership roles in student organisations at the Students' Union provide great ways to develop your skills and balance your commitment to your activity that might be difficult with an additional module to manage.  If you are thinking of running for any of these roles in your club, society, at The Courier or NSR, consider taking the module as a way to add greater skills development to your role.  You will gain skills and workplace awareness on the module, and this can mean the difference between doing a good and doing a great job in your role.

If you are a part-time officer for the 2012-2013 year, you may consider using your work as a PTO for your placement.

For students who aren't currently involved in student activities, but want a way to make a difference on campus, consider taking on a placement at the Students' Union.  You will help provide support to projects that make a difference to the university community and the other students on campus.  Past student placements at the Students' Union have been working on the exciting Culture Challenge programme, spearheading a post-graduate engagement project, helping with Welfare and Campaigns, and preparing an information booklet to help welcome new international students.

Please see Elyse in the Activities Centre for a description of 2012-2013 placements at the Students' Union.
