Friends Action North East is a charity, which supports Adults with a learning disability to make and keep friendships. We are currently looking for volunteers for the one to one friendship mentoring project to support our friendship finders to make and keep friends, find new activities and learn friendship skills such as travel, confidence to go out to new places etc.
Recruitment and screening process for volunteers:
All volunteers will have fill out an application form, go through a CRB, and have a one to one interview with our project coordinator. Every Volunteer would also need to go through our training programme.

Description of role:
A friendship Builder will support someone with a learning disability enrolled onto the friendship programme (friendship finder) to help build and maintain friendships, get more involved in new activities to meet new friends and support in developing friendship skills to keep friendships e.g. planning, confidence, and transport.
Specific skills required:
None of our volunteers need to be experts but we do require them all to be patient and respectful for the people they are supporting and share our charity’s aims and objectives.
Training:
-Safeguarding Training - Level one.
This training will be delivered in a two-hour programme delivered at a choice of venues and time, by Newcastle safeguarding team. I’ll send over a list to the volunteers, all volunteers will be expected to have done safeguarding training before start volunteering.
-Induction (in-house). Wednesday afternoons.
This is a basic induction delivered before volunteering starts, by the volunteer coordinator. Two hour.
