Welfare and Equality Officer  2011-12

I represent you on anything to do with your wellbeing while you’re at Newcastle University. This can be anything from financial difficulties to sexual health, housing problems to mental wellbeing. I also work closely with many of the part-time officers to ensure that all of our students are treated fairly and according to their needs.

I will be running campaigns all year on issues the affect you– if you want to get involved in these you can join WAC Crew, a great opportunity to get involved with the Union and meet loads of new people. You’ll see me around campus campaigning on current student issues, gathering your opinion on student life at uni, or sometimes just wandering around giving out free contraception – look out for my condom fairies! (Or get in touch if you fancy being one).

During term one I’ll be focussing on student housing standards, University fees, students in the community, mental wellbeing and sexual health. If you have any suggestions for campaigns that you think the Union should be supporting then just send me an email and we can discuss it. My job is to listen to students and make the changes that you want me to. Come in to my office to have a chat or send me an email if you think there’s anything I can do to improve your University experience. I also operate a confidential drop-in service on Wednesday afternoons from 12-2pm, but feel free to pop in any time I’m in the office.
