What is the Trustees Board?
Having become a registered charity in 2009, Newcastle University Students' Union is required to have a board of trustees in place, to not only ensure that the organisation is meeting it's legal and financial requirements; but to also provide guidance and structure for future strategies and decision-making. The board is made up of your six full-time sabbatical officers, in addition to six external members, who have been chosen based on their level of experience, knowledge and skills.
Who is the Trustees Board?
In addition to your six elected Sabbatical Officers, the following people make up the Newcastle University Students' Union Trustees Board:

Peter Gibson
Peter attended Newcastle University, graduating in 1997 (LLb Hons) followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at The College of Law in York. Peter was admitted as a Solicitor in September 2001 and has worked in private practice for 12 years. During the past five years Peter has owned and managed his own practice, Coles Solicitors, based in Northallerton. Peter is the firm’s Managing Director and sole shareholder. The company employs 12 staff. Peter has also served as a Trustee of Herriot Hospice Homecare, a charity providing home based end of life care.

Lucy Robson
Lucy attended Newcastle University between 2001 & 2005 obtaining a BSc (Hons) Chemistry and an MA International Financial Analysis. During her time at University she was involved in Union activities including acting as Treasurer for a society, being an NUS delegate and being a part time elected officer. Lucy is a qualified chartered accountant and currently works as an audit manager for a mid-tier accounting firm. She is responsible for managing audits for a significant number of education, not-for-profit and corporate organisations of up to £60m turnover.

Karen Humble BSc(Hons) FCIM MCIPR MCIPD
Karen is a communications specialist based in the North East of England. She started her strategic marketing and public relations company in 1996 acting for a range of public and private sector clients. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Karen is Co-Chairman of the Academy for Chief Executives (North East), a Trustee of Esh Charitable Trust and of Newcastle University Students' Union, and is a Non-Executive Director of leading north east charity, The Cyrenians. She also delivers work related training and learning to school students through her training arm ‘The Interface – serious fun!’

Patrick Navein
I am currently a third year student studying English Literature. Besides acting as a trustee for the union, I am also President of the university surf club and have recently taken up the post as one of two Deputy Athletic Union Officers. Outside of union life, I act as a student representative and regularly volunteer at the Talking Newspaper. On graduating I plan to pursue a career in law.
