You Said, We Did! (Updated: December 2012)
 
Since we care about our what our 20,000 students think; this pages outlines some of the things that we've done based on the comments and suggestions that you've submitted on a daily basis. If you've got a suggestion, there are boxes around the Union, you can speak to one of your Sabbatical Officers, or alternatively, check out 'Change One Thing'. 
 

You Said… societies had concerns about the difficulty of accessing rooms due to full usage and the removal of the free use of Castle Leazes and the Armstrong building centre.
 
We Did… The Activities officer took up these issued with the university and within NUSU and now:
• Castle Leazes have changed their policy back and societies are using for free again.
• Freed up Bedson Teaching Centre for society use by moving INTO classes to the INTO building in Semester 2
• Armstrong can now be used by musical societies.
• INTO rooms now on NUSU room booking system for use by societies
 

 
You Said… The top 3 campaigns that students wanted us to campaign on (as per the NUSU annual survey) were Exam stress, Sexual health and Student Safety.

We Did… The Welfare and Equality Officer ran a Sexual Health and Guidance week and a Not If But When campaign in term 1 with Stressed Out student planned for term 2
 

 
You Said… 68% of you stated in the survey that you prefer to receive communication from NUSU via email
We Did… We now have data access to send you appropriate communications direct via your university email account

 
You Said… you wanted more live bands.

We Did… increased live bands with 8 live music events taking place in the SU Sept-Nov 2012. For the same period last year, only 2 recording artists had performed live.
 

 
You Said… you would like to see film screenings in the Union

We Did… We now have a film showing every Monday
 

 
You Said… you were unhappy about the security provided at the union and in particular, the management of queues during freshers’ week.

We Did… we have now changed our security provider in response to your concerns
 

 
You Said… Career Development Module students asked for an opportunity to interact with other volunteering students
 
We Did… we put on a social evening with free refreshments
 

 
You Said… Students asked for some Go Play sports to run across two/three terms instead of changing the sports completely each term as originally planned
We Did… we changed the structure to accommodate this, including climbing, archery, badminton, tennis, squash and horse-riding

You Said: You wanted the Robinson library opened 24/7
We Did: We lobbyed the university to secure Robinson Library opening 24/7 during term time
 

 
You Said: You said that feedback turnaround times were confusing
We Did: We ensured the university changed turnaround times to calendar weeks rather than working weeks.
 
The Course Reps, who the Union train and support have secured the following changes for you:
 
• Law Course Reps have managed to get the Law Library to open on Sundays
• MSc Advanced Computer Science students have had personal lockers installed in their cluster room and now have     access to a printer 24/7.
• A student common room has been created for the students of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology.
• In Biomedical Sciences, during tutor/tutee meetings, tutors can now offer a breakdown of marks to the tutees.
• The Business School now provide the Financial Times and the Herald Tribune for students.
• In Combined Honours Course Reps have helped improve communication between subject schools.
• In Biology, Course Reps successfully increased the time that they have to complete lab based work.
  SACS Course Reps have re-designed the Art Café.
