This varies between courses and schools. On many courses, Course Reps will be elected (either in a lecture, by email or online). On other courses, anyone who volunteers can be a Course Rep.
Any student can be elected as a Course Rep!
The best thing to do is to let your School office, Degree Programme Director or an existing Course Rep know early in the academic year and ask what the election or recruitment process is for your Staff Student Committee. You should then receive all the information you require and if you become a rep, you will be contacted about training provided by the Students' Union.
Is the election a big deal?
Not at all! Please don't be put off by the idea that you might have to make a rousing speech or go around canvassing support - Course Rep elections are a very low key affair due to the fact they are limited to your course only, so they usually take place either in a lecture or by email/online vote, depending on what method your school prefers to use. It may be that all volunteers can have places as Course Reps on the Staff Student Committee, in which case you won't have to take part in an election at all. However, it is important that all students on your course know who their reps are so make sure your details are made available to everyone.
If you have any problems with this process, please get in touch and we will do anything we can to help.
