► Guide to Recruiting Course Reps

At the beginning of the academic year, all students should have the opportunity to nominate themselves to become a Course Rep.

The opportunity to become a Course Rep should be promoted as widely as possible; it is a good idea to advertise available positions during induction week and then follow this up with an email from the Staff Facilitator. The Students’ Union will also promote the role to the wider student community.

Where a number of candidates have been nominated for a position, it is fundamental for the success of the system that students have ownership of the recruitment of their representatives and that the process is transparent and democratic.

Therefore, the school should facilitate an election. This can take place in a lecture or seminar if the whole cohort is together, or it can be facilitated electronically through email, Blackboard or any other method the School has at its disposal. For the election, it is advised that students should speak very briefly or write 100 words explaining why they would be a good rep.

If you would like the Students' Union to support or promote your election then just ask George.
