The following are questions and subsequent answers that potential candidates have asked about becoming a School Rep.
1. What is the difference is between a Taught Rep and a Research Rep?
A Taught School Rep represents both undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate taught (PGT) students in the school. A Research School Rep (PGR) will represent the postgraduate research students in the school. Only UG and PGT students can apply for Taught School Rep roles and only PGR students can apply for Research School Rep roles.
2. Can final year students apply for School Rep?
Final year students can apply if they are continuing on a different course at Newcastle University next academic year. For example if you are a final year UG student who is going to start Postgraduate studies at Newcastle University next academic year then you can apply. If you are a PGT student who is starting a PGR qualification next academic year you will need to apply to be the Research Rep for the school you will be completing your completing your qualification in.

3. Is there anywhere that specifies what the role entails?
An overview and the responsibilities are included in the application form and there is also information on the role and responsibilities webpage.
4. Do I have to apply for my School's School Rep position or can I apply for a position outside of my School?
You are only eligible to apply for your School's School Rep position. You are also only eligible to apply for a Taught School Rep position if you are a Taught Student and Research School Rep position if you are a Research Student.
5. The School Rep position that I would like to apply for is not on the list of available positions?
In a few schools and institutes the current School Reps have requested to continue in the role for 2013/14. Subject to the School Reps completing their tasks to a satisfactory level, their requests have been accepted and the current School Reps have been allowed to continue. Therefore that role has been already been confirmed for 2013/14 and we will not be accepting applications. In addition, if there are roles solely for PGT students (e.g. FMS Graduate School position) they will not open until the start of the 2013/14 academic year.
6. Can I apply as a Job Share?
Yes, it is possible to apply as a job share, just follow the information for how to complete the role as a job share on the application form.
