I'm an International Student, where do I go for information?

We are extremely excited about welcoming all International students that will be coming to Newcastle University. Wristbands will be available online for students to purchase, a proportion of which will be availale to purchase upon arrival in Newcastle for those International students who are unable to purchase wristbands in advance.

As well as Freshers' Week Events there will also be an International Welcome Programme running from the 20th to the 23rd Septemeber 2011. Please visit the international website for more information.

What provisions are made for Student Parents & Carers?

Throughout the week there will be special events organised for Student Parents and Carers to ensure any questions are answered reassuringly and to provide an opportunity for you to meet other students in similar situations. Please feel free to contact us in advance of Freshers' Week if you have any queries. 

 


 
Wristband Questions
 

Do I need a wristband?

 
Yes, to be part of the official freshers' week daytime and nightime events you will need a wristband in order to gain entrance to the official freshers only events that are held both at the union, clubs, bar's, restaurants, pub's, theatre's you will need a wristband. Without a wristband you will not be able to take part in any of the daytime activities either. We have some fantastic daytime events that you can only do with a wristband, for no extra cost. The wristband really is the best way of getting value out of the week.
 

Can I only buy a wristband in advance?

The only way to purchase a wristband is online before you arrive at Newcastle University. They will go on sale from the 18th August 2011. If you experience problems ordering a wristband online please get in contact.

Does my wristband get posted to me?

No, you will collect your wristband on campus, with proof of purchase, University confirmation and Valid Photo ID. Wristbands can be collected at the Union, or at Henderson Hall and St. Mary's.

What about Under 18's?

Wristbands are also available to purchase for the select number of students who will not be 18 upon arrival at university. At wristband collection everyone will need to provide a valid form of photo ID. For those students under 18 wristbands will be available at £55 online, with £15 cash returned upon collection.This discounted price reflects that students under 18 will not be able to participate in all activities due to the sale of alcohol being present at certain events and venues. However don't worry as there will still be lots of activities and events available throughout the week that Under 18's will be able to enjoy! 

Will there be a choice of activities and events throughout the week?

Yes, each night will have a diverse range of activities both on and off campus.Throughout the week there will be a wide range of day activities that suit everyone. There will be great selection of activities, with many repeated throughout the day so as many people can get involved as possible.

Is everything based on campus or at the union?

No. Although certain events are held at our brand new Student Union, we are also working with some of the city's leading venues, clubs, restaurants, bars, theatres and activity centres to make the week as varied as possible.

Will the wristbands sell out?

Yes! Wristbands sell out every year. We advise that you purchase your wristband as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Does the wristband involve transport?

The wristband covers transport to venues and activities that are located further than walking distance. Minibuses and coaches will be provided

Will I have to pay to do some of the activities?

No. The cost of the activity is covered in the purchase of the wristband.

Will the activities clash with Induction/Lectures?

Throughout the week activities will occur at different time slots, with the majority being repeated throughout the week or several times throughout the day. You should be able to attend any lectures or induction sessions you have whilst still making the most of your wristband for the daytime and night-time actvities. Please note however that numbers will be limited for certain activities.

What if I don't drink Alcohol?

Freshers' Week has plenty of day and night activities that we guarantee you will enjoy even if you do not wish to consume alcohol.
