What is RAG...
RAG stands for Raising and Giving. It is a charity responsible for fundraising within NUSU and is headed by two organisers: Rosie Leatherland and Harriet Hill. A committee of 24 work closely with the two organisers to plan the events throughout the year, and a crew of 150+ volunteers lend their time to raise as much money as possible during the infamous 'RAG Week' at the end of January.
RAG at NUSU is all about raising, giving, and having a really good time. We offer a range of student experiences from events in Newcastle, such as fashion shows and socials as well as many opportunites away from campus. These can be as basic as collections and nights out in other UK student cities, or as adventurous as volunteering in Thailand, Africa, and Ghana. For the really daring, there is jailbreak, which challenges students to get as far away from Newcastle as possible without spending a penny. Join RAG to take part in this and much much more!
At the end of January, Newcastle's very own RAG week takes place, with over 150 volunteers collecting for our chosen charities through street collections, nighttime events, and curious fancy dress costumes. Taking place immediately after the January exam period, its an excellent excuse to relax, have fun, and take part in what is freshers' crews' younger sibling!
We are offering the chance for students to go abroad this academic year to Ghana, Thailand and South America with our international development charity, Madventurer. http://www.madventurer.com/ for treks to Kilimanjaro and Macchu Pichu, helping to build schools and orphanages in Ghana, and having a pretty good summer holiday in the process!
