RAG stands for “Raising and Giving “and is a student-led committee which organises all fundraising within NUSU throughout the academic year. This year, Elinor Thomas and Ellie Isaacs will be directing the committee consisting of 30 students and will work closely as a team to plan a host of charitable events, including the infamous “RAG week.”
This year, RAG week will take place immediately after the January exam period and is an excellent excuse to relax, have fun and take part in Freshers’ crew’s younger sibling! The week will consist of a team of 150+ students lending their time to raise as much money as possible whilst having as much fun as they can through street collections, nighttime events and curious fancy dress themes! Volunteering to help local charities is a great way to enhance your CV as it develops important employable skills and indicates time management and concern for your local community.
RAG at NUSU offers a range of student experiences from events in Newcastle such as fashion shows, battle of the bands and socials ,as well as many opportunities away from campus. These may be as basic as collections in other cities around the UK or, for the more adventurous and daring, “Jailbreak” which challenges students to get as far away from Newcastle as possible without spending a single penny!
