The Student Advice Centre also runs the Baby Equipment Services for Students (BESS)

Equipment Available:

Stair gates, fireguards, cots, sterilisers, pushchairs, highchairs, baby monitors, strollers e.t.c. 

 

How much does it cost?

The service registration fee is £10.00 per year. The charge to borrow baby equipment depends on the size of equipment, large items e.g. pushchairs is £10.00 per year, with smaller items e.g. baby monitors, sterilisers, stair gates, highchairs etc is £5.00 per year.

How do I borrow equipment?

Students must be registered at Newcastle University. 

This service operates by appointment only. To arrange an appointment you can either ring the Student Advice Centre on 0191 2393979, or email bess.union@ncl.ac.uk giving details of equipment you wish to loan also the age of baby/child.

***New Resource for Student Parents***

BrightsideUNIAID Trust have launched a new website to help students with children prepare for university life.

The www.studentparents.org is part of a wider programme piloting the use of ementoring to support student parents with the transition from further to higher education. Students at college who are thinking of going to university are mentored by student parents already studying at a local university.

Studentparents.org provides a range of online information and tools including; a jargon buster to provide clear information about student support, a budget calculator with information about financial support and tools, tips on preparing for higher education, including time management, childcare options and study skills, and case studies from students already balancing higher education with parenthood.
