► Mental Health Matters

Where: Mental Heath Matters, Phoenix Centre, Wallsend

What: Back in 1984, a small group of North East carers joined forces to form their own mental health charity which they hoped would provide quality mental health services for the relatives and friends they cared for. 22 years on, their aspirations have been realised and Mental Health Matters has flourished into a leading UK Mental Health charity serving in excess of 1000 people every day

Mental Health Matters (MHM) is a national organisation which provides support and housing to people with Mental Health Problems. The Phoenix Centre in Wallsend is a day service / employment service which provides learning opportunities to people engaging in the community and for those looking to get back into paid employment.

Volunteer Roles:
MHM are looking for people to teach basic languages e.g. Spanish/Italian/French to approximately 6 service users. Volunteers are also needed to teach local history.

Skills Acquisition:
Volunteers will be able to take a Mental Health Foundation training course which covers mental health, risk assessment, health and safety, boundaries, lone working, protection of vulnerable adults and aggressive psychological and physical intervention. This is also a good opportunity for anyone looking to develop teaching skills.

Expenses: MHM will cover expenses for travel, materials and out of pocket expenses.
