What: ETEC is a well-established training and development trust in the heart of Sunderland close to the city centre.
The not-for-profit trust offers a wide range of training opportunities to both communities and individuals.
ETEC has won several awards for its work and specializes in assisting potentially socially excluded groups to reach their full potential.
ETEC is currently seeking charitable status for the UK Charity Commission.
1.Department: Administration
Up to three volunteer/placement vacancies to include staffing reception, operating a switchboard, forwarding telephone calls and meeting and greeting visitors.
Other duties may include assisting in the dispatch of outgoing post, making outgoing telephone calls to a range of stakeholders, filing, photocopying and data input.
2: Department: Play Together
Volunteer to assist in providing administration and marketing support to this grant-making and playwork organisation.
Duties to include filing, photocopying, assisting in the dispatch of mail and making some outgoing calls to stakeholders.
Other duties may include assisting in the marketing of Play Together and its services.
3: Department: Community Development
Volunteer to assist in providing administration and marketing support for small community development department.
Duties to include filing, photocopying, data input, building and expanding databases and preparing outgoing mail for dispatch.
Other duties may include assisting in preparing marketing materials and engaging with stakeholders in order to encourage programme take-up.
4: Department: Community Hand
Up to two volunteers to include a bricklayer, joiner or multi-skilled craftsman to assist in the training and supervision of apprentices and learners on site.
Key duties to include the guidance and supervision of learners, assisting with handyperson jobs in the community and customer service.
5: Department: Community Decorators
Fully trained and experienced painter and decorator to assist in the supervision of learners.
Duties also include liaising with customers as well as assisting with and supervising work on-site.
6: Health and Safety
One vacancy exists to shadow and assist ETEC’s fully-qualified HSE manager in a range of monitoring, administrative

General experience in administration. Practical experience of using a wide range of IT packages and applications including MS Word, XL, email and internet. Development of customer service skills. Experience in the use of a switchboard at an SME.
2: Play Together Key Skills Development
General experience in administration. The opportunity to gain experience and understanding of how a grant-making organisation interacts with stakeholders. Customer service and some marketing experience.
3: Community Development Key Skills Development
Administration experience. Experience in marketing and promoting a growing department. The opportunity to gain an all-round understanding of community development and community engagement.
4: Community Hand: Key Skills Development
Teaching and coaching learners from a wide range of backgrounds. Experience of working with a community project and an opportunity to gain experience of partnership working.
5: Community Decorators: Key Skills Development
Teaching and coaching learners from a wide range of backgrounds. Experience of working with a community project and an opportunity to gain experience of partnership working.
6: Health and Safety: Key Skills Development
An opportunity to gain an insight into risk assessments, monitoring and health and safety training in a small, diverse organization. The chance to gain an insight into a department, which is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the organization as a whole.
In addition to the specific skills’ development attached to each volunteer post/department/project, all ETEC volunteers are given travel expenses to ETEC from their home address (term-time/north east.)
