What : Oxfam’s purpose is to work with others to overcome poverty and suffering. The finance office based in Newcastle records and processes shop income and associated expenditure for all Oxfam’s charity shops in the UK (network of c700 shops, the purpose of the trading division is to make as much money as possible to overcome poverty and suffering.
Volunteers Role: Volunteer Finance Assistants – volunteers are sought to commit to 6 hours per week (either half days or full days). Volunteers would assist with recording and processing of Oxfam charity shop income and/or associated expenditure for the Oxfam shops. Oxfam reimburse lunch and reasonable travel expenses for volunteers. No previous experience is needed as full training and support is given to all volunteer finance assistants. Responsibilities would include logging/filing shop income returns, data checking & entry, query handling, bank reconciliation work, supervision of other volunteers, checking invoices, processing invoices, problem solving, customer care, mail sorting, record maintenance and assisting with mail outs. Volunteers ideally must have good basic numeracy, attention to detail, basic knowledge of IT, efficient, organised, flexible and have good interpersonal skills.
Experience/training:
Working in an office environment, working in finance department, teamwork and organisational skills, data input skills.
Full Training is given and no previous knowledge or experience required.
