School governors form the largest volunteer workforce in the UK with around 350,000 governor places nationally. On average 12% of these places are vacant at any one time due to natural turnover with many vacancies remaining unfilled for long periods of time.  The objective of the School Governors' One-Stop Shop is a very simple one, "To recruit governors with transferable skills, to fill vacancies on the governing bodies of schools where they are needed most".
