What: Gibside is a beautiful 18th century landscape garden near Gateshead. Former home of the Unhappy Countess, ancestor of the Queen Mother, it has lots of stories to tell. As visitor numbers increase, we want to offer an even better visitor experience and make a visit to Gibside really special. You can get involved. We are looking especially for:
Volunteer Roles:
Learning Volunteer
Working with School Groups and other groups of young people to provide formal environmental learning.
Visitor Welcome Volunteers
You could be one of the first to greet our visitors and really enthuse them about their visit. Working alongside the staff reception team, you will help visitors make the most of their time at Gibside – whether answering questions or advising on the best walks or activities for children.
Chapel Guides
The Chapel is a very special place at the heart of Gibside. We are looking for volunteers to welcome visitors, spark their interest in its history and offer a short guided tour. A great role if you are enthusiastic and interested in history.
Stables Guides
Help bring the Stables alive! Welcome visitors to the 18th century stable block and offer guided tours, whilst also helping run the popular Renwick’s coffee and second hand bookshop. There are also opportunities to help look after our animals and conservation tasks such as maintaining harness.
Tour Guides
Are you enthusiastic and good at telling stories? Join our new, exciting tour programme and learn to tell the story of Gibside and of the people who lived, loved and worked here.
