This SCAN project offers informal English teaching/cultural familiarisation and some social activities for the spouses of international students living in the Arthur’s Hill area of Newcastle. When international students come to study at Newcastle their spouses often know little of the language and culture and become isolated during the time their partners are studying. The project offers basic English teaching/cultural familiarisation work, support/social group and some daytrips. Based at the Arthur’s Hill community house the project works on a Wednesday afternoon only from approx. 1pm-4pm Due to the size of the group and the size of the community house this project only ever requires 3-5 volunteers per year.
