Where: Various venues throughout city

What: Girlguiding UK is the United Kingdom's largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women, with around half a million members including about 100,000 trained volunteer adult Leaders and supporters. 'Girlguiding UK' is an operating name of The Guide Association.

Volunteers run games, challenges and camps to improve girls’ life skills and confidence. Weekly meetings are run for girls aged 5-7; 7-10; 10-15 and 14+. Girls aged 14+ and volunteers aged under 25 can work on schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Volunteers are required for the following roles:

1. Volunteer leader
Organise and run games, challenges, crafts, outings etc Training is given in age appropriate activities; child safety & first aid. Meetings last 1-2 hours per week, with occasional outings at weekends. Groups across Newcastle meet at various venues and on different nights, so there is something to suit everyone. Volunteer leaders complete the Girlguiding UK Adult Leadership qualification and can take further qualifications to run camps and holidays; lead walking parties etc.

2. Unit Helper
Helpers support adult leaders at weekly meetings and on trips and holidays. They are welcome to attend training sessions but do not need to complete the leadership qualification

3. Occasional Helper
Occasional helpers help at weekly meetings or trips as needed to ensure adult: child ratios are met. Alternatively, they can share a skill and teach girls at times to suit themselves.

4. Administrators
Volunteers with secretarial or administration skills help by taking minutes of meetings, obtaining quotes for activity hire, transport etc

Volunteers gain leadership skills and many gain valuable experience to support careers in teaching and caring professions.

Working with the children is very rewarding and volunteers can often share the fun of many of the activities and outings.

Volunteers can have their expenses reimbursed.
