► Northbourne Street Youth Initiative

Northbourne Street Youth Initiative is about children and young people's personal and social development.

This underpins their community based, informal eduation provision, where young people's participation and active engagement with the wider community are seen as important aspects of their work.  Northbourne Youth Initiative's aim is to offer children and young people a range of opportunities to further their personal experience and social development.  The young people who access the Youth initiative are often disadvantaged through low income, poor employment opportunities or low aspirations.  There are issues around poor educational achievements, offending, exclusion from eduation and training as well as unemployment.  The Youth Initiative works directly with the young people to try to address these issues.  Northbourne has a range of volunteer roles including working directly with children and young people and being a member of the management committee.

All volunteers will be given full induction and appropriate training.  They will also be offered regular support from the Youth Initiative Manager.  Within 12months volunteers should complete role specific training eg face to face volunteers should complete first aid and child protection training, whereas management committee volunteers should complete legal responsibilities of a management committee training.

Northbourne Street Youth Initiative is based in Elswick in the West End of Newcastle.
