► Care Homes Project

Care Homes Project seeks to tackle isolation and depression amongst older care home residents by providing ‘befrienders’ and support  for residents to participate in leisure activities and maintain links with the local community.

Where:
The project will take place in 4 care homes in the West End of Newcastle.

The volunteer roles:

1. Befriender

2. Reader

Skills/ disposition required:

good communication skills, a friendly manner, warmth, tact and patience; a genuine interest in working with older people is essential.
Ability to drive and own transport is an advantage but is not essential.
Volunteers are required to be CRB checked and to provide References.

Training/ Skills acquisition & benefits to the volunteers:

Out of pocket expenses provided.
You will gain experience in befriending and working with the elderly.

Training will be provided in working with older people; professional
boundaries; first aid; dementia awareness; challenging behaviour communication.
