► Crisis

Crisis is based in City House, City Road, Newcastle

Crisis is a national charity that fights homelessness and empowers people to fulfil their potential and transform their lives.

Crisis City House Newcastle is a learning and skills centre that offers people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless an opportunity to take part in practical, creative, accredited learning opportunities.  It helps to encourage people in learning, education and on to employment.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

Support Team Volunteers: Supporting staff in front line and behind the scenes roles. Being a friendly face of Crisis, helping new people with filling in forms and supporting new members with inductions. General office admin roles are included as well as working on reception, answering the phones and greeting members and visitors.

Newcastle Community Ambassador’s Scheme: We are currently looking to recruit a team of volunteers to go out individually or in pairs to various locations including schools, churches and community groups promoting the vital work of CRISIS Skylight whilst encouraging donations. The community ambassadors will do this through the use of a prepared presentation.

Language and Culture Group Volunteers: The language and culture group is a volunteer led session that allows our non English speaking (ESOL) learners an opportunity to go out on trips and learn about North East and British culture whilst developing their English speaking abilities. Volunteers are needed to help support the group on trips and to speak with individuals, helping them to practice their English speaking skills. The group is predominantly but not limited to members of Crisis who are currently seeking asylum in the UK, however it is open to all members. Previous trips have included a trip to Tynemouth, the Castle Keep and the Angel of the North. The group is held every week on a Saturday from 1-4pm. You would be expected to commit to two Saturdays per month.

Skills/training/benefits: group training and induction into each area, health & safety, working with members. All volunteers will have an opportunity for a variety of training events, workshops and skills development with both staff and Crisis members
