What: New Prospects is an established provider of support for adults with learning disabilities in Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland since 1990. At New Prospects, we provide a specifically tailored service to every individual, working to support plans chosen by them. We support people to reach their hopes and dreams, to be safe and healthy, and to make their own choices so that they are in control of their life.
Role 1 - Befriending & Socialising
What: In a befriending or socialising role, you meet a person with a learning disability who shares your interests in their own home or in their local community. You may accompany them to a social event or activity, or help them seek out places of interest in their local community. You may also provide practical help for the person, for example helping them with cooking, gardening or shopping. As a befriender you are accompanied by a trained member of staff, but may eventually be involved independently.
Who: We are looking for a friendly person with a positive attitude who is caring, empathetic and has a real interest in the people we support has good communication skills and the confidence to take the initiative works well in a team and enjoys to share experiences
The role is open to male and female volunteers. There is no qualification required and previous experience with people with learning disabilities is not essential for this role.

Role 2 – Driver & Buddy
What: As a volunteer driver youmay provide transport for an adult with a learning disability to their leisure activities or places of interest, as well as to run errands in their local community. The person is generally accompanied by a trained member of staff, but may eventually go in the car independently.
Who: As a volunteer driver you provide transport in your own car. A valid driving license and full insurance are essential. You will also be required to pass a brief driving competency assessment.

Role 3 – Marketing & PR Assistant
What: We are looking for volunteers to carry out basic marketing and/or PR tasks. Based on your interests and abilities, this can include: Creating leaflets, flyer and other advertising, creating and/or updating our website, our Facebook and Twitter page, as well as creating training packs and newsletters.
In this role, you will have contact with people with learning disabilities, our staff across the organisation, as well as others we have connections with.
Who: We are looking for a friendly person with a positive attitude who works well in a team and can take direction is reliable and honours agreements is confident to take responsibility and the initiative
has good communication skills and a real interest in the people we support. The role is open to male and female volunteers. There is no qualification required and previous experience of marketing/PR activities or with people with learning disabilities are not essential for this role.

Role 4 - Photographer and/or Filmer
What: We are looking for a voluntary photographer and/or filmer to help document our work with people with learning disabilities and our organisational achievements. This includes taking pictures and/or filming at people’s homes, out and about in their local communities, at activities or events.
In this role, you liaise with our staff as well as with the people we support across the organisation.
Equipment, including digital camera and/or camcorder, is provided by the organisation.

Role 5 – Providing and/or Teaching Skills
What: We are looking for volunteers who would like to share their interests and hobbies, and to contribute their skills or expertise to the benefit of adults with learning disabilities. This might be doing someone’s gardening, carrying out DIY tasks, helping someone to use the computer, teaching someone to cook, or enjoying craft work together. The possibilities are endless and can very much be determined by the volunteer and their interests or skills.
Who: We are looking for a friendly person with a positive attitude who would like to share or contribute a particular skill or interest is caring, empathetic and has a real interest in the people we support has good communication skills and the confidence to take the initiative

Role 6 – Event Planner and/or Fundraiser
What: We are looking for a volunteer to help plan events and leisure opportunities for the benefit of adults with learning disabilities and the organisation. Depending on the volunteer’s interests, ideas and abilities, this can be contributing and working in a team, working independently or leading a team to organise events.
In the role of fundraiser and/or event planner, volunteers will have contact with people with learning disabilities, our staff across the organisation, as well as others we have connections with.
Who: We are looking for a friendly person with a positive attitude who is creative and full of ideas
is confident to take responsibility and the initiative works well in a team and has good communication skills is reliable and honours agreements has a real interest in the people we support.
The role is open to male and female volunteers. There is no qualification required and previous experience of event planning or fundraising activities or with people with learning disabilities are not essential for this role.
