New Prospects Association

WHAT: New Prospects is an established provider of support for adults with learning disabilities who are living independently in Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland since 1990.

Also, New Prospects Association offers help and advice to enable people we support to get the most out of life, being part of the community, taking part in college courses, employment and leisure activities.

YOUR ROLE:

1. Befriending & Socialising
1.1 Location: North Shields (North Tyneside)
Who: A man; physical and learning disabilities with good communication skills
Tasks: Accompanying
Time: Monday evening

1.2 Location: Monkseaton, Whitley Bay (North Tyneside)
Who: A man with mild learning disabilities, Good communication skills
Tasks: Socialising; preferably to be a man volunteer
Time: once a month (or more) in the evening

2. Befriending & Practical help
2.1 Location: Lemington (Newcastle upon Tyne)
Who: Bubbly lady with learning disabilities in her 50s
Tasks: Accompany and help (including gardening, arts and crafts, sensory/ chill out sessions and cookery)
Time: 1-2 hours per week

2.2 Location: Throckley (Newcastle upon Tyne)
Who: 3 women with learning disabilities who are using wheelchairs and have limited verbal communication
Tasks:
Assistance for a range of tasks on top of the paid care support they receive. May include gardening, outing, IT training, Massage sessions, Hair dressing, Story telling, Teaching, Ironing, Decoration, Carpet fitting etc.

2.3 Location: Monkseaton, Whitley Bay (North Tyneside)
Who: A small group of adults with learning disabilities with good communication skills
Tasks: May include: Gardening, Cooking and Baking, Teaching/ sharing skills, Beauty sessions, Aromatherapy sessions
Time: 2-3 hours per week

3. Driving & Buddying
3.1 Location: Monkseaton, Whitley Bay (North Tyneside)
Who: A small group of adults with learning disabilities with good communication skills
Tasks: Drive them to leisure activities or places of interest, as well as to run errands
Time: 1 hour upwards per week

4. Activities Volunteer
4.1 Location: Various locations (North Tyneside)
Who: Adults with learning disabilities
Tasks: Seek and/or develop and facilitate a range of activities, for example beauty therapy activities and an exercise group

4.2 Location: Various locations (Newcastle upon tyne)
Who: Adults with learning disabilities
Tasks: ‘The Community Enabling Service’; help to facilitate leisure activities i.e. household tasks, employment and leisure activities

4.3 Location: North Shields (North Tyneside)
Who: A group of mostly older adults with learning disabilities who have good communication within their day service
Tasks: ‘The Community Activities volunteer’; supporting and enabling the group within their daily service in North Shields. May include: Befriending & Socialising, Joining in and/or facilitating activity sessions, Fundraising, Event planning, Providing transport

5. Admin & Office Help
5.1 Location: North Shields (North Tyneside)
Tasks: Range of administrative tasks: Filing and shredding, Answering the telephone, Typing, Photocopying, Organising, Fundraising etc. May also need to contact people with learning disabilities

5.2 Location: Monkseaton, Whitley Bay (North Tyneside)
Tasks: Carry out a range of administrative tasks: Filing and shredding, Answering the telephone, Typing, Photocopying, Organising, Taking minutes, IT, Fundraising, Delivering leaflets and advertising, Creating websites and databases, Creating leaflets, training packs & newsletters. May also need to contact people with learning disabilities
