Where: Provincial House, Northumberland Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne NE1 7DQ

What: NE1 is the Newcastle City Centre Business Improvement District delivery company. The Company, funded by city centre based businesses, is charged with delivering a range of measures designed to; improve the ‘offer’ of the city centre. NE1 achieves this via projects which include ‘Alive After Five’, delivery of a series of Pocket Parks to improve the urban environment and a team of Street Rangers to act as ambassadors for the city, helping to provide a great welcome to visitors and tourists.

Volunteer Roles: Street Ranger

Purpose of Role:
The NE1 Ltd Street Rangers are the public face of Newcastle and provide a welcome and help to members of the public with information, directions and advice on attractions, activities and events taking place in the city centre.
Working as part of a team the Street Rangers also work with the Police to observe and report instances of antisocial behaviour or other security related matters.

Main Responsibilities/ Duties:
- To be proactive in helping members of the public and the business community.
- To provide a visible presence in public areas, patrolling areas/streets as designated by the Team Manager.

Personal Attributes:
The successful candidate will be confident and possess a bright, outgoing and enthusiastic personality. You will be comfortable dealing with the public and have strong verbal communication skills, with excellent English.
Physically you will be able to cope with the demands of outdoor street patrol work, including in adverse weather conditions (it can get cold, wet and windy). You will be well presented (have a smart, tidy appearance) and be flexible with regard to daily duties.

Skills Acquisition:The role offers the opportunity to work positively with tourists and other members of the public in a customer relations and service delivery manner.
We also expect there will also be the opportunity for committed volunteers to complete the Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisors Course, gaining the SIA.
