► West Jesmond Primary School Allotment

WHAT: Our school allotment has been going for 10 years and has won awards as a community garden. The project is run by volunteers linked to the school and has expanded to cover four allotments which include as pond, willow area, orchard and beds. The children regularly visit the allotment during the school day and enjoy working with growing plants as well as numerous gardening jobs, pond dipping and wildlife watching!

WHEN: flexible

ROLES:

- General gardening duties (i.e. digging, planting, pruning, composing etc.)
- Seasonal work as needed, with instruction and supervision from the school staff who run the allotment

SKILLS GAIN:

- Knowledge of gardening, plant, nature and seasons throughout the year
- Physical exercise and fresh air
- Team working
- Working with Children and insight to teaching skills
