Would you like to do your John Muir Award with SCAN & Rupert’s Wood?
The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.
Four Challenges are at the heart of each John Muir Award; discover - explore - conserve - share. More info at http://www.jmt.org
We at SCAN love the John Muir ethos, and believe that involvement in the award can deepen and support an individual’s involvement in environmental projects. This autumn, SCAN’s Guerrilla Gardening and Ruperts Wood are offering to guide committed volunteers through the award, so that your time spent on conservation tasks, experiencing the wild, and being an ace environmental volunteer, will count towards a ‘Discovery’ Certificate with the JMA.
As well as being signed up as JMA providers, Phil and Mike at SCAN will ourselves be doing the award this Autumn, so that working as a team, we can share our discoveries and support each other in completing it. The Discovery Award requires 4 days (or equivalent) + time spent on a project, so if you think you’re likely to complete that time before Christmas (4 consoc tasks, 8 afternoons with guerrilla gardening, or 2 overnight camps for example), why not get accredited with the John Muir Trust?
