What: Engage in Education is a national programme working locally with schools to help young people at risk of exclusion to stay in mainstream school. In Newcastle, we are working with 3 schools, providing services to ensure that young people remain in education, thereby reducing both the economic and social cost of school exclusion.
Volunteer Roles:
1. Mentor (Male)
A friendly, approachable person who can be the male role model he so desperately needs in his life.
As a Mentor with the Engage in Education Project, you will help to make a real difference in a child's life. You may help with school work or take them to an out of school activity. You may accompany them to a football match on Saturdays or simply listen.
2. Mentor (Female)
As a Mentor with the Engage in Education Project, you will help to make a real difference in a child's life. You may help them tap into services or with their school work. You may help them start a dance class or volunteer to gain experience.
3. Creative Support Volunteer
Along with media company Talent Studio, you will assist young people in the making of a short film depicting issues that are important to them. This gritty, urban film will be shot in and around Newcastle using local landmarks and places important to the young people.
As a volunteer, you will help the young people to plan the film, look at how to shoot scenes, what will look good and how they can get their message across. An interest in film making or art is essential however you don’t have to be able to use film making equipment
4. Minibus Driver
If you enjoy driving and are looking for something to expand your CV and experience then look no further…
We are looking for confident and capable people to be volunteer minibus drivers. You will transport young people, other volunteers and staff to and from set locations in Newcastle upon Tyne.

We are looking for people interested in dance (but may not necessarily be good at it), who can motivate and organise young people. The Dance Production group's aim is to bring young people together and encourage them to express their experiences, emotions and feelings via dance. You will assist a trained dance teacher and Engage in Education staff to support 15-20 young people in the planning, rehearsal and production of a Dance Performance based around 'Positive Futures'.
