Congratulations to Feminist Society and Dermatology Society, who have both won Society of the Month for January 2021!
Both societies have done some amazing work not only in January, but throughout the entire term, and both their nominations were a pleasure to read. It was impossible to pick a winner between the two.
Here's some of the fantastic things carried out by the two societies:
FemSoc have been organising some brilliant campaigns this year, collaborating with a range of other societies, to raise awareness for Black History Month and Disability History Month. They have also raised over £300 for some brilliant charities, such as the Angelou Centre, Mermaids, Team Kenya, and Scope - raising money by selling handmade FemSoc face masks, making their committee members both entrepreneurs and fundraisers.
Inclusivity and accessibility have been at the heart of everything Feminist Society have done this year, with the society's Welfare Offier holding 'Welfare Wednesdays' for FemSoc's members. They have also worked very hard to achieve the incredible accomplishment of being the first society of this year to gain the incredibly difficult Gold Earn Your Stars award!
DermSoc have been working incredibly haed to gain outreach to non-medic members this year, and have done just that. They've frequently worked with our Give It A Go team to create unique events for all students, such as a Face Yoga tutorial, which was organised to help students staying in Newcastle over the Winter Break.
Dermatology Society has also shown this month that the society really cares about helping others. They have done frequent Welfare Drop Ins for their members, as well as raising money through their events for some great causes, like the Mary Thompson Fund and British Skin Foundation. Many of the committe members have done these fantastic things whilst tirelessly looking after Covid patients on their placement, so well done to this brave and wonderful group of students!
We've had some fantastic nominations this month, and it's been so heartwarming to see what our lovely societies have done to keep their members entertained throughout the pandemic. It is so obvious that the wellbeing of members is at the forefront of what our societies do. Feminist and Dermatology societies are stellar examples of this.
Well done to our two winners, and please feel free to nominate your/a society by 25th Feb to win next month :)
