Calling all INTERNATIONAL students, LOCAL students, POST-GRADUATE students - any students who are at Newcastle Uni week commencing 18th September 2017!

If you’re arriving in Newcastle early, before our full Freshers’ Week starts, or live locally then our Early Arrivals activities will help you meet new people, have some fun and get settled into life at Newcastle! This page has all the information on the social side of your first week – some activities require tickets, and you can book online here from the 4th September 2017.

Go behind the scenes to see the changing rooms, visit the dugout, go pitch side and see the amazing view from the very top of the stadium! 3.30pm (Weds) and 11.30am (Thurs)

Evening events - 
Half of you will be going bowling on Wednesday, and half will go out for a free big dinner! On Thursday, you’ll swap and do the other activity. 

Come along and collect an Evening Pass on Wednesday from 4pm at Luther’s Bar and check which you’re doing.

400 available; first come, first served. No online sign up available.

Traditional English Roast Dinner at the Carvery

The way to people’s hearts is through their stomachs, so make new friends over some free dinner, with unlimited ice cream for dessert!

Wednesday & Thursday 20, 21 September 5PM-10PM 10 Pin Bowling Party

We’re whisking you away for a night at the bowling alley. You’ll find fast friends in your lane, and there’s food and a bar if you want it

Meeting point: NUSU Luther's Bar = 5pm onwards 

FREE – bring your evening pass! Walking time = 15 minutes



Wednesday and Sunday 20 & 24 September 10AM-4PM Go Volunteer Campfire Cooking

Spend a day enjoying beautiful woodland and cooking on an open fire.

Ticket includes return transport to the woods, and plenty of food for cooking on the fire. Bring your own favourite food if you want something specific!

5-a-side Football tournament - come and play! Open to all. We'll put you in a team when you arrive, so feel free to come along and meet some other players for a bit of indoor action! All genders & abilities welcome.

Friday 22 September 11.30AM, 1.30PM Newcastle City Sightseeing Bus Tour

Take a 90 minute journey around the city and enjoy the view from an open-top double decker bus! You will see many sights, visit the many bridges of the river Tyne at the quayside, learn about life in Newcastle throughout history and admire the architecture and history that have made Newcastle the wonderful city that you now call home

Stu Brew Brewery Tours

with Go Volunteer

Join us for a brewery tour and learn about the current sustainability projects linked to the Stu Brew enterprise (part of Go Volunteer), including treatment of waste yeast and recycling of waste grain.

Find out more about how you can get involved in Stu Brew, and get your hands on some of our famous ales from Europe's first student-led brewery on campus!

Friday 22 September 12PM-3PM WELCOME DAY at NUSU

A whole building showcase of what’s on offer at your Students’ Union – do not miss! Free food for the first 500 students! Activities, mini-fair, free massage, mini-zoo with cute (and creepy!) animals, photographers, music, information and MORE! 

No sign up - just come down to NUSU. Free BBQ food (meat & vegetarian) from 12pm for the first 500 students!

City & University Welcome Reception

A welcome reception hosted by the university in the Venue at NUSU - more info here. A Harry Potter themed festivity, where you'll be welcomed by the Mayor of Newcastle and the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University with a free buffet of food, magic and entertainment.

Saturday 23 September 10AM-6PM Whitby Bus Trip

Come on a day trip to see some of the beautiful coastline of the North East of England and visit the beautiful seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire. Famous for its Dracula associations, you can see the sights, play on the beach, go to the arcades and enjoy a British tradition - Fish and Chips!

Cockle Park Farm

Take a trip to NUSU’s own farm plot, complete with beehives and vegetable patches. We'll give you a tour, you can help out and learn the workings of a British farm!

Includes transport to and from the farm. Drive time approx 30 mins. Wellington boots provided. 9am-1pm or 1-5pm.

Freshers' Week 2017

**Don’t forget to get involved in our full welcome programme giving you the chance to meet even more friends and like-minded people, and see the full range of what we do here in Newcastle!
Newcastle University Freshers’ Week is one of the biggest and most diverse in the country, with a huge range of activities to suit everyone! 
As well as big night-time events, there are non-drinking/chilled out/alternative events every evening, a vast range of daytime activities and so much more included in the ticket price (a wristband that gives you entry to everything). Come along, listen to our panel of current students with disabilities talk about their experiences so far, pass on any tips/advice, ask them questions and have a chance to meet other students. Meet NUSU's Students with Disabilities Officer, the staff who run Inclusive Newcastle, and University Wellbeing Staff to ask about any of the services.
