Awards & Recognition

Recognising Achievement

We want you to tell us what we should be celebrating. NUSU wants you to nominate yourself, another student or a student group for one of our suite of awards, recognising the amazing achievements of so many students at Newcastle University. Whether you volunteer out in the community, do great things within a club or society, have invented or developed something that will have a great social or economic impact, have started a business or been enterprising in other ways – basically, anything extra-curricular you’ve done, we want to hear about it!

Celebrating Success Awards

Whether it’s work that has been done within the University, or externally, we celebrate what you’ve been doing beyond your studies. We do this by hosting our Celebrating Success Awards at the end of the academic year - these are the top of NUSU's social calendar.  When applications open, you can nominate yourself, a friend, or a whole group of students for one of our awards. These will be collected and voted on by an Awards panel under an Award Lead, and the results will be announced during our week long worth of Awards nights. The CSA's are split into many different Awards nights, and each night hosts a long list of awards specific to that category. Here is our current list of Awards night:

  1. Athletic Union Awards
  2. Societies Awards
  3. Media Awards
  4. Community Impact Awards
  5. Student Rep Awards
  6. Alumni Achievement Awards
  7. Contribution to the Workplace Awards
  8. NUMed Awards

Pride of Newcastle Awards

The culmination and spectacle of the academic year – the best of the best! Selected winners from categories across the Celebrating Success Awards are put forward to this prestigious ceremony, organised by NUSU and Newcastle University Careers Service. Guests include all of the nominees plus their friends/family, university and students’ union staff, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, local and national employers, as well as community leaders. The event is always fully catered and an amazing night full of highlighting the achievements of students.

2020 Awards in Lockdown

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, we weren’t able to host the usual awards ceremony this summer gone. Instead, we invited the shortlisted candidates (which you can find in the above PDF) to attend our online ceremonies which happened in May.

We announced the winners on social media after the ceremony and posted videos of the online ceremonies for you all to watch.
