Media Awards

PLEASE NOTE: In these unprecedented times, we need good news and stories of excellence more than ever. For this reason, while we may not be able to host awards ceremonies in the real world any time soon, the Celebrating Success Awards nominations are still going ahead, and we really hope you’ll spend a few minutes telling us about the brilliant students you know!

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Media Awards! So if you'd like to nominate yourself, an outstanding individual, team or section for their impact on student media at the Students' Union, then make sure you submit your nomination before the deadline of Monday 13 April (Easter Monday). 

 

This award is given to an individual based on their active involvement in student media throughout the year. This individual has demonstrated great enthusiasm for student media and has gone above and beyond to make marked positive contributions.

This award is for the individual that has produced a high standard of content for numerous sections of the newspaper across the year, demonstrating the ability to write reports, features, and reviews.

This award is for a piece of written work that has been included in The Courier this year, displaying a high quality of writing that informs, analyses and entertains.

This award is for the individual member of the sub-editorial team that has made a significantly notable contribution to the sub-editorial team. This individual has demonstrated consistently strong editorial skills and has used their knowledge to help others.

This award is for the individual who has contributed significantly towards the creative design of the Courier, whether this is through providing photography or illustrations, enhancing our website or creating visually stunning layups on InDesign.

This award is for the section of the newspaper that has demonstrated a consistently high standard of editing, creativity and overall execution of production across the year.

This award celebrates the newspaper's best quality spread of the year. The spread can be a single or double-page and must feature excellent content that is informative and entertaining as well as relevant to the student audience, as well as a creative visual layup. This award thus recognizes the talent of writers as well as the InDesign and Photoshop skills of editors and their ability to come up with interesting article ideas to create a cohesive spread.

This award is given to an individual based on their active involvement in The Courier throughout the year. This individual has demonstrated great enthusiasm for student journalism and has gone above and beyond to make marked positive contributions to The Courier.

This award is for the individual that has shown great commitment, ambition and potential in their first year with NSR.

This award is for a presenter who is exceptional in their manner, creativity and style. They are an example to others on presenting.

A show, broadcast, interview or event that sits out of the ordinary schedule. It required planning, organisation and aims to reach a new audience.

This award is an individual or team who have produced a radio show of exceptional quality, ranging from presenting talent to innovative content. They will have gone beyond to be original and may have (although not necessarily) considered things like social media, tech, creating a brand etc. The winner can be for a series of exceptional shows under one name or alternatively an individual special event show.

This award is given to an individual based on their active involvement with NSR. This individual has demonstrated great passion for radio and has gone above and beyond to make marked positive contributions to NSR.

This award is for the individual who has shown a consistently high standard of key production acumen, timekeeping and reliability across the year.

This award is for the individual who has demonstrated a consistently high standard of technical and artistic editing skills whilst always meeting the producer's requirements and making significant contributions during the post-production process.

This award is for the presenter who possess excellent communication, presentation skills and has the ability to improvise when necessary research and interviewing skills. Has great charm and knows his/her audience. They are calm under pressure, portray confidence and is humorous when required.

This award is for the show that has been consistent in releasing their episodes, which has regularly engaged a high number of viewers. This show has had an industry-standard editing, filming, presenting and producing.

This award is given to an individual for their outstanding contribution to NUTV. This individual is an extremely active member of NUTV and has gone above and beyond in their contributions. Whether this individual has contributed to the processes of producing, editing, presenting or filming, above all this individual has used their initiative to provoke lasting positive changes to NUTV.
