Fashion Is A Feminist Issue
zoom online
Don’t trust Missguided’s ‘feminist’ ethos but not sure why? Not sure what terms like ‘slow fashion’ and ‘intersectional environmentalism’ actually mean? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Join us for our first event of our 'Climate Change is a Feminist Issue' campaign - a talk by our Vice President and Remake Ambassador, Jemima, on all things fast fashion and why fashion is a feminist issue. We’ll be covering everything from the Rana Plaza disaster, garment workers’ welfare and working conditions to the fashion industry as neo-colonialism and what we can do to make a change! Following the presentation will be an opportunity for group discussion.
--Accessibility--
The slides will be shared after the event.
Content warnings: worker exploitation, colonialism, colonialist violence, COVID-19, modern slavery, industrial disaster, child labour, a brief mention of sexual assault and rape
Please access the link to the zoom call 15 minutes before the event begins to allow time for technical issues or uncertainty using the system.
There will be a link on our Facebook group. Please download the zoom app on your phone or computer. The link will redirect you to a screen where it either asks you to log in through your personal account or add the name you want to show up on screen. You will then be allowed into the zoom call by the event leader. For further info, the university has made a guide on how to use Zoom:https://videoconferencing.ncl.ac.uk/zoom/
Please use headphones where possible, as this will make communication easier between all members and help those with hearing difficulties.
If there are any other accessibility concerns we have not covered, please contact us at feministsociety@newcastle.ac.uk and we will do our best to support you in your participation.
