IntersectionaliTEA: postcards for #payup - Scrapbooking Soc X FemSoc

zoom online

FemSoc and ScrapSoc are joining forces for an epic postcard making session as part of FemSoc’s sustainability campaign, Climate Change is a Feminist Issue. The wonderful Scrapbooking committee will be teaching us how to make a postcard completely from bits lying around your house, whilst the Feminist Society’s vice president Jemima will be chatting about Remake’s #PayUp campaign. In March 2020, as national lockdowns were announced all over the world, many fashion brands withheld payments to their suppliers, many for orders which had been either fully or partially completed. This meant that the people making the clothes were left without an income. Remake’s #PayUp campaign seeks to recover these wages from brands.

For the postcard making you will need:

Thin cardboard (eg. a cereal box)

Scissors

Glue

Ruler

Pencil

Black fine-liner (an ordinary pen will work)

Coloured pens/stickers

Colourful scraps (from magazines, old birthday cards, junk mail, newspapers)

Fashion stencils (will be emailed out)

Optional:

Coloured paper

Stickers

Printed photos

Ink stamps

--Accessibility--

Content warnings: worker exploitation, colonialism, colonialist violence, COVID-19, modern slavery, child labour
A video tutorial with captions on how to make a postcard will be posted on the event page prior to the event and will remain accessible after the event. A fact sheet will also be posted to the event page so members can refer back to what was discussed.

Please access the link to the zoom call 15 minutes before the event begins to allow time for technical issues or uncertainty using the system.

The link will be sent to you prior to the event. And if you are a FemSoc member, then there will be a link on our Facebook group. Please download the zoom app on your phone or computer. The link will redirect you to a screen where it either asks you to log in through your personal account or add the name you want to show up on screen. You will then be allowed into the zoom call by the event leader. For further info, the university has made a guide on how to use Zoom:https://videoconferencing.ncl.ac.uk/zoom/

Please use headphones where possible, as this will make communication easier between all members and help those with hearing difficulties.

If there are any accessibility concerns we have not covered, please contact us at feministsociety@newcastle.ac.uk and we will do our best to support you in your participation.
