[FULL] CBT Group Workshop 1: Managing Unhelpful Thoughts
This workshop is delivered by the Newcastle University Psychological Therapies Training & Research Clinic. Do you sometimes find yourself thinking that you’re not up to the task of postgraduate study, that your work isn’t good enough, or that things just seem destined to go wrong for you? This workshop looks at patterns of thinking that can get you down and dent your motivation. It looks at ways to understand why they happen and what you can do to limit their impact on your motivation, wellbeing and how you feel about yourself and your progress.
This is a 2-hour workshop that aims to modify ‘how we think’ rather than ‘what we think’. It includes exercises based on evidence-based principles to help you explore responding to your thoughts in a different way. In the workshop you will:
- Find out about unhelpful thoughts commonly experienced by Postgraduate students
- Hear from other students and their experience of unhelpful thoughts
- Understand why we can get caught up in these thoughts
- Learn about and practice ways of managing these thoughts to reduce their impact and free up our attention
