Girl, Woman, Other - BAME talk and discussion

Lit & Phil Library, 23 Westgate Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1SE

Our next event is going to be a special one! In March we will be celebrating BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) authors with a talk and discussion at Newcastle’s Literary and Philosophical Society (The Lit & Phil Library).

We will kick off the evening with an introduction on BAME approaches to literary studies by Dr Neelam Srivastava, a senior lecturer of postcolonial literature at Newcastle University. We will then move onto this month's book for discussion: Bernardine Evaristo's spectacular 'Girl, Woman, Other', a Winner of the 2019 Man Booker Prize. From Newcastle to Cornwall, from the birth of the twentieth century to the teens of the twenty-first, this novel follows a cast of twelve characters on their personal journeys through this country and the last hundred years. Teeming with life and crackling with energy, this book is a love song to modern Britain and black womanhood.

When: Wednesday 18th March, 5-7pm

Where: Lit & Phil Library, 23 Westgate Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1SE

We can’t wait to see you all there! This event is open to all Newcastle University students.
