Microvolunteering

Stretch Tent (outside NUSU)

Join us in the stretch tent for some microvolunteering. Micro-volunteering describes a volunteer, or team of volunteers, completing small tasks that make up a larger project. You will have the choice of 3 different projects Post Pals (writing letters to sick children, sewing Wiggly Bags or upcycling glass jars.

  • Wiggly Bags are small hand stitched fabric bags used by children with Hickman lines. What’s a Hickman line I hear you ask? A Hickman line is a central Venus catheter often used for administration of chemotherapy or other medication as well as the withdrawal of blood from analysis. Some types are used mainly for the purpose of apheresis or dialysis.

  • Post Pals is where we write post cards and letters to sick children who need a much-needed lift across the UK. These children have serious illness and would like fun, friendly post pals to write to them.

  • Or you could turn old unused glass jars into something new and fancy, how about a tealight holder, something to store fairy lights in, a vase or even a jar for your loose change and other bits and bobs.

You don’t need anything for these activities, everything is provided.

We will provide small sanitised activity packs for each volunteer.

If the weather is poor this project may be cancelled.

Numbers are limited in line with government guidance, so you do have to sign up.
