Newcastle University OrthoSoc aims to introduce students to Trauma & Orthopaedic (T&O) surgery through organising a variety of educational lectures, guest talks, events and practical workshops throughout the year. The society promotes T&O surgery amongst members of the society and medical students, providing a hub for anyone interested in engaging with the speciality. OrthoSoc provides an opportunity for members of the society to meet and participate in surgical based activities together, with an emphasis on orthopaedic skills.
This year the society aims to provide increased educational benefit to members through a variety of activities, including lectures, talks and practical events for members. We will organise tutorials and workshops to allow students a chance to learn or improve their surgical skills and try first-hand some techniques used by orthopaedic trainees & surgeons.
We strive to encourage and foster connections between T&O surgeons and students, providing members with links to T&O departments in and around Newcastle for the purpose of mentorship and involvement in audit & research projects.
We encourage members to partake in local and national events such as conferences and surgical education days and the society has strong ties with national organisations such as the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association (BOTA) and the British Orthopaedics Association (BOA), as well as with orthopaedic industry. This year the society aim to grow even further to organise and host the inaugural National Undergraduate T&O Conference in Newcastle.
Meetings to be scheduled every two months, venue & time (tbd)
