Brief Description of Society Activities In the modern era, chronic non-communicable diseases affect the health of millions of people around the world. Conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, obesity and mental health issues are all the result of the interaction between complex lifestyle factors. Lifestyle Medicine is a holistic approach to improving health and wellbeing by focusing on small lifestyle changes we can make in our day to day lives, including: • Physical activity and exercise • Diet and nutrition • Sleep • Stress reduction and mental health • Healthy relationships By making these changes as individuals we can hopefully contribute to a societal shift in attitudes towards health, and empower people to lead happier, more healthy lives. As well as benefit you in your future practice as a healthcare professional, Newcastle Lifestyle Medicine Society is open to all students to find out practicable, simple techniques to improve your own health and wellbeing!
Meeting Days, Times and Venues We aim to host talks from guest speakers and workshops once or twice a month – all our events will be publicised in advance on our social media channels. Due to the current COVID regulations talks will be held via zoom, however if restrictions are relaxed, we will strive to hold in-person events. There are no prerequisites to joining the society – it is open to students on all degree courses!
