Brief Description of Society Activities

We are affiliated with the wider organisation Amnesty International, a human rights organisation fighting for individuals suffering from injustice around the world. As a university group, we work together on Amnesty campaigns such as combatting climate change, gender-based violence, anti-racism, trans and non-binary rights and many more! We are a very collaborative society, every member has a say how we stage our campaigns, whether it be leafleting round campus, social media campaigns or protests. We also host fundraising events such as comedy nights to raise money for local charities.
Everyone is welcome! No need to have any activism knowledge, our campaigns are very informative and we always make sure we are all well informed on the injustices we are campaigning for first and foremost. There is also training provided before any larger scale campaigns eg stalls on campus or protests, so our members understand how best to engage with the public during an activist campaign.
You may have seen our most recent event, we painted a giant vulva and had it up at a stall on campus to get people talking about the "Let's Talk About Yes" campaign. We painted and sold tote bags with consent-based slogans on them, gave away chocolates to people who could correctly label the clitoris and had lots of petitions and information on consent to give away.
This year we are running our Let's Talk About Yes, Housing as a Human Right and Trans and Non-Binary campaigns. We are very open to campaign for separate injustices you, the students, have a passion for. Drop us a email or come along to our meetings with any ideas. Previously, we have partnered with students from Hong Kong to raise awareness of xenophobia they had been facing on campus.
