Brief Description of Society Activities

The Catholic Society is a faith community where everyone is diverse and encouraged to socialise with other students, whether about faith, life, University work or other activities outside the chaplaincy.

The Society has joined with the local parish at St. Andrews and every Sunday there is be mass at 6 pm and followed by social time. Students are also welcome to join the weekday mass. Every week on Wednesday we hold a meeting to explore faith as a subject, and during term time the Committee holds social events for students to make new friends and feel at home in Newcastle.

The Chaplaincy also hold two big social events during the year. During the first semester, we have a two-night trip to Wooler where students can socialise and participate in fun activities outside of the Chaplaincy. During the second semester, we go on another two-night trip to Holy Island, an opportunity to socialise and explore issues of faith. The Catholic Society is part of the Chaplaincy and Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, and both Fr. Andrew and Mia offer students pastoral and spiritual support.
