What we do:
Competitive Riding - selected teams who take part in regular training sessions and competitions against other universities.
Social Riding Lessons - open to all abilities.
Other fun activities such as; Beach Rides, Mounted Games, Hacks etc.
Weekly fun social events for all club members.
Our training and social riding take place at Washington Riding Centre.
No previous experience is needed for social lessons (everyone is welcome!) and riding hats can be borrowed from the riding school, but appropriate outdoor sports wear is essential.
Canter control is needed for more advanced activities, such as beach rides and mounted games etc.
The ability to ride a dressage test and jump a course of 85cm is required to trial for teams, however no previous competition experience is necessary.
Please note: if selected you are required to attend training every week and every member will need their own competition kit (show jacket, riding hat, boots etc.).
Dates and Times:
*** SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO COVID ***
Trials will be split into flat one week, with jumping trials the following week for those who are chosen after flat trials.
Unfortunately this year we were unable to have a freshers fair, so we're hoping that new members have managed to find us on the NUSU website and via social media!
We will be running a taster session for social riding however this will not be until AFTER team trials, due to covid we have had to prioritise team selection. Social riding will also unfortunately only be open to intermediate and advanced riders, due to new social distancing rules we are unable to offer beginners lessons - we are hoping this may change in semester 2.
FLAT trials will run on WEDNESDAY 21st OCTOBER from 2 pm - 4 pm. Unfortunately we only have 16 spaces for trials, so it will be run on a first come first served basis.
JUMP trials will run the following WEDNESDAY 28th OCTOBER from 12 pm - 3 pm. These will only be for riders of whom have been chosen after flat trials.
TEAM training will then begin the following TUESDAY 3rd NOVEMBER with hour long slots running from 5:30 - 8:30 (these will be allocated depending on teams once chosen).
SOCIAL RIDING TASTER SESSION
This is open for anyone who can already ride, looking to meet new people and have fun! As previously stated unfortunately we cannot take beginners currently. The taster session for social riding will run on WEDNESDAY 4th NOVEMBER from 1-3pm.
Social lessons: Wednesday afternoons, 1-3pm, must be booked in advance through our secretary (Hannah Bloor)
