Brief Description of Society Activities

Orienteering is an outdoor adventure sport which involves navigating around a course on foot by using a detailed map and compass.  The aim is to navigate in sequence between a set of control points, and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.  It does not matter what age or level of fitness you are at, as you can run, jog, or walk the course and progress at your own pace.

Fell Running involves training and racing in the hills and mountains, and the club offers these activities by means of long runs and races. There are also hill sessions run in various locations around Newcastle including the town moor and in jesmond dene, where we improve our uphill and downhill techniques, as well as become stronger, in preparation for these events.

Orienteering and fell running take place in a variety of locations, with courses typically taking you to places that you wouldn't otherwise go to.

 

Meeting Days, Times and Venues

Wednesday: 6:00pm - Easy club run from Newcastle University Sports Centre, sometimes with a pub to finish

Weekends: Parkrun / orienteering event./ fell run or race / weekend trip away (e,g. Edinburgh, Lake District). Check the Facebook group or emails for further details each week

Orienteering and Fell Running events can be anywhere from Newcastle to the North York Moors, Durham Dales and Northumberland (up to 1 hour away)
