Brief Description of Club Activities

The Powerlifting & Weightlifting club aims to promote the interests in olympic weightlifting and powerlifting amongst it's members.

To do this it will provide a space for members to meet and participate in training and activities, receive coaching and programming, train together and provide the opportunity for members to compete for themselves and in representation of the university, if they want to.

We have made a sizable investment in powerlifting equipment this year that will be available for all club members to use in the university gym. This includes a large amount of Eleiko calibrated powerlifting plates and 4 ATX power bars. We are also looking at some more equipment too! More information on this to follow soon.

Meeting Days, Times and Venues

Due to COVID, things are going to be different to start off with this year. This includes restricted use of the gym and strength and conditioning room (S&C), which will affect how club members can train and receive coaching. Due to restrictions only allowing 4 members in the S&C at once, these sessions will be focus on coaching for members (prioritised for beginners) that want it and not to just come along and train. We have made the decision to not do in person sessions consistently for the time being. This is disappointing but it is due to the capacity restrictions on the S&C meaning that not everyone would get consistent attendance of these sessions, along with availability of the coaches. One of sessions may be run though, and when restrictions ease, the sessions will be back (hopefully in the new year and when the new gym and S&C facilities open).

However, for members, online coaching will be available: videos, questions etc can be sent over to the coach. This is to make up for the lack of in person coaching. There are also different levels of programs available and the option for individualised programs for more experienced lifters.

Club members will also be in the gym regularly outside of these times and members training together in the gym forms a large part of the club activites. However, due to COVID univeristy gym restrictions, many members will be training in other gyms until these restrictions ease.

There are no pre-requisites to join the club. We welcome anyone from complete beginners to advanced lifters with an interest in powerlifting and/or olympic weightlifting.
