Details

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1

Primary contact for all departments and officers’ Digital Communications needs

2

Work with DDC to plan, execute and oversee the Digital elements of the NUSU Communications Strategy and the Digital Transformation Strategy including the adoption of SUMS.

3

Manage the NUSU website, delivering on all aspects of design, framework and digital development, maintenance and content management. Create development roadmaps, sandbox designs and departmental presentations.

Act as primary contact between NUSU and MSL in relation to the maintenance and development of the NUSU website and Membership Management System.

Manage online elections

6

Provide timely and informative reports to departments on all digital functions including Google Analytics, Facebook insights etc.

Lead on all website software development by attending online and in-person training and monitor supplier’s software update announcements. Cascade updates to the team where necessary.

Have a good understanding of NUSU’s audience segmentation model and implement a targeted approach to digital communications centred on the model

Oversee the operation of the Students’ Union e-commerce; including on-line shop and on-line ticket sales.

Setup and monitor central and departmental email campaigns, including the maintenance of all NUSU address books and the creation of email templates.

Setup automation and programme workflows within the email marketing platform (Dotdigital).

Oversee the writing, building and distribution of NUSU’s email campaign schedule by the Digital Communications Assistant.

Work with departments and students on the best approach to continually add events, news and blog articles to the website; deliver training annually.

Work with the Graphic Designer to ensure all design concepts work for both digital and non-digital communication assets and that all digital comms follow brand guidelines

Research and assess emerging trends and technologies which can be applied to NUSU

Maintain the quality of NUSU digital communications by ensuring published content is thoroughly proofed before distribution.

Oversee the production and delivery of all NUSU video content by NUSU Media Assistant. Lead on the distribution of this content via the website and e-communications

Lead on the content strategy for the NUSU App. Co-ordinate with the Digital & Communications team the production and scheduling of content.

Support the department in other areas (i.e. Freshers’ Week, and Refreshers’ Fair)

Line manage Digital Communications Assistant and Media Assistant

 

 

Dimensions

 

The post holder will be the initial point of contact for Digital Communications queries.

 

Staff: Help train staff on using the website, digital channels and troubleshoot any queries.

Financial: Manage website development and maintenance budget

Customers: External clients of Newcastle University Students Union, Newcastle University and suppliers

Operational: Expected to work as a team, working with officers, internal staff and all student members

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

 

Knowledge - Educated to degree or equivalent level. At least one-year experience of working within a Digital Communications organisation or team. Knowledge of web design principles, content management systems and programming languages CSS, HTML and JavaScript or an alternative scripting language. Up-to-date and proactive in researching digital technology and trends. Experience in ecommerce, Email marketing, social media and SEO.

 

Skills - Excellent communication skills including written English, able to work on own initiative and prioritise work to meet deadlines. The post holder should have the ability to solve problems based upon past experience and analysis. Deal with colleagues and students in a friendly and flexible manner. Innovative when faced with new technology.  Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Adobe and Canva.

 

Desirable – Previous experience of line management. Professional Qualification in Marketing, with some digital elements. Interest in design and other creative mediums. An understanding of audience segmentation.
