Locked Down, Link Up

Locked Down Link Up is NUSU’s mental health and wellbeing campaign providing you with support and resources for mental health as well as opportunities to get involved with virtual events and activities so you can link up with fellow students whilst we are locked down and beyond.

Mental Health & Wellbeing Support

Being a student can be stressful in normal circumstances but with the ever-changing lockdown regulations due to Covid-19 it is more important than ever for us to look after our mental health. As part of our Locked Down Link Up Campaign, NUSU have compiled a list of mental health support services and resources to help you.

The Student Advice Centre is your go-to advice service in the Students Union for Housing, Finance, Academic Issues, Mental Health referrals, or anything in-between. They can be accessed online and are available for online appointments.

We aim to help students get the most from their time at the University and to maximise their academic success by providing time-focused counselling and mental health disability support. Our service is without charge and is available to all current students.

Nightline is our confidential and anonymous listening and information service run by students for the benefit of students. Contact them any night of term to talk about how you’re feeling or request information about other services. Their instant messaging service available from 8pm to 2am.

Whatever you're going through, a Samaritan will face it with you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Every seven seconds, they respond to a call for help. No judgement. No pressure. They're there for anyone who needs someone. Samaritans works closely to make sure fewer people die by suicide.

As a member of NUSU, you have access to many opportunities including, societies, sports clubs and volunteering to help improve your wellbeing alongside your studies. If you give them a try, you may feel happier, more positive and able to get the most from Uni life. Remember……high levels of wellbeing and resilience don’t just lead to fewer mental health problems. Good levels of wellbeing are associated with:

  1. Improved learning and academic achievement
  2. Reduced absence from work due to sickness
  3. Reductions in risk-taking behaviours
  4. Improved physical health
  5. Increased community involvement
