Leave Newcastle Happy is one of the strongest environmental NUSU campaigns, growing each year and creating a positive relationship between NUSU, Newcastle University, Newcastle City Council and many local residents.

In 2016/17 a massive 6930 bags collected (226 in 2016) with a value of £124,270.

2018 Campaign

Leave Newcastle Happy returns bigger and better this year. With added locations of British Heart Foundation donation banks we are hoping to get you donating more than ever!

How to Donate

We will be out and about delivering the donation bags soon but please use an everyday plastic bag if you prefer.

Fill up your bag, please take as many as you need, and drop it off in one of the donation banks located at:

If you are living in halls you can donate at any of the University-managed residence receptions.

Rubbish Skips

There will also be rubbish skips located in the main student areas

in Jesmond and West Jesmond. This will give you the opportunity to get rid of your household rubbish and will tackle the problem of back lane dumping, something that happens when all of the usual household bins are full. The skips will be in the following back lanes, please make good use of them and help to ‘Leave Newcastle Happy’.

Litter Picks 

Volunteer in one of the end of term litter picks to help us ‘Leave Newcastle Happy'. 

Student and staff Community litter picks are an important part of the campaign and can help you give back to the city we all love! Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet others, get out of the classroom or office and enjoy the sunshine (fingers crossed) but perhaps most importantly; volunteering is proven to improve mood and lower stress levels.

We supply all of the equipment but please be sure to bring a drink, waterproof and suitable shoes.
