I’m Louise, the Editor of Newcastle’s independent student newspaper: the Courier, for 2018/19.
My role entails managing a pool of writers and team of editors in producing our weekly 40-page newspaper and maintaining our website: http://thecourieronline.co.uk. I also oversee the management of our other branches of student media at the union: Newcastle Student Radio (NSR) and Newcastle University TV (NUTV).
Anyone who is a student at Newcastle University can write for the Courier. Whether you want to review of your favorite film, comment on worldwide issues, update students about what’s happening on campus or hold your university to account with some investigative journalism, there’s space in the Courier for everyone’s voice to be heard.
This year my main aims are to increase inclusion by offering introductory workshops for writers and socials between all three branches of student media. Grow our online presence through implementing a specific team of online editors to help produce more content, more frequently on our online channels. And finally, implement an informal redesign of certain sections of the paper, refining our what’s on page, comment section and adding more interactive features to ensure that students are engaged with, and represented by, our newspaper.
You don’t need any prior experience to be part of student media at Newcastle, just follow our social media channels on Facebook or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how to get involved.
