Following on from my first blog as Communications & Engagement Intern here at Go Volunteer and Give it a Go, I thought it was about time I updated you on what I’ve been up to over the past couple months.
Give it a Go have had a jam packed schedule recently, with loads of cool activities on offer for just a snip of the price. During the exam period, we were cosied up in the library with loads of colouring sheets and info to help you all de-stress (my personal favourite was the Ryan Gosling colouring in page). It was lovely to meet lots of students and give you a bit more information about our upcoming events, like horse riding, fudge making and the famous LUSH factories trip.
The fudge making session was run by the lovely girls from NUSU’s Baking Society, and the chocolatey smell as you entered the room was enough to get your mouth watering. We learnt how to make classic chocolate fudge as well as chocolate orange and a few other flavours. I can’t say that the fudge lasted that long once we’d made it – it was an absolute hit in the office. Thankfully, on our Krispy Kreme trip I was clever enough to eat my hand-made chocolate sprinkle donut at the factory.
A group of us when down to Stepney Bank Stables to learn how to trot, canter and gallop on a horse recently, and it was such a welcome change in pace from the usual busy City life. The lesson was loads of fun, with lots of squealing from the students as they got to grips with sitting on the sometimes-naughty horses. It was fun trying to get them to listen!
The Lush trip was a personal favourite of mine. The Lush staff explained how to make the Creamy Candy Bubble Bar and the Butterball Bath Bomb from scratch, and we got our hands dirty (figuratively speaking) having a crack at it ourselves. My Creamy Candle Bubble bar essentially looked like a giant pink blob, but some of the others were amazingly shaped – hearts with edible flowers pressed in and all sorts.
I also treated myself to a Give it a Go manicure during work one afternoon, which as you can imagine was a real drag.
If you missed out on any of the activities you wanted to go on, don’t worry –there’s still a great selection available on the website. Oh, and keep a special eye on our newsletter for our new Term 3 activities, it’s set to be magical…
